I love being a Dothan senior photographer. This amazing little city is full of historic Southern charm. I enjoy taking senior photographs at the different locations Dothan has to offer. From the downtown locations to the gardens on the outskirts of town, all of the venues are gorgeous.
Kristee was pretty shy when I first met her. Most of my seniors are. But, after about 10 minutes of silly jokes, she opened up. It’s so much fun to joke around with my clients so that they relax a bit. It helps them show their personalities, which is exactly what I want to capture.
Kristee had such incredible style! She came prepared with gorgeous outfits that fit her personality well. Her style was simple and feminine. She chose mostly cool tones and they were perfect against the stunning backdrops down Foster.
Styling for senior portraits is an important part of the process. You want the grad to be involved in choosing what they wear for their photographs. Having them feel super comfortable is the goal for these sessions and allowing them to choose their outfits helps tremendously.
I love seeing the grad’s different styles and incorporating it into their portraits. Whether their style is classic, edgy, eclectic or simple, I can work it into their photographs.
One of the things I love most about my job as a Dothan senior photographer is getting the grads to open up about their future plans. It’s inspiring to hear the visions of these young men and women. The possibilities that lie ahead of them are seemingly endless. Some of them want to go off to college, some of them want to stay close to home. Some grads want to become a doctor or lawyer. Others want to be a teacher or a hair stylist. All of the grads I have met have plans for their future and it’s exciting to hear what they have to say. It fills me with great hope for the future to hear about their dreams and aspirations. Truly, the world will be a bright place with them leading the way.
The joys of this season of life are many. When I do their portraits, these students definitely have senioritis, if you will. They are, however, still looking forward to the events ahead of them. Prom is usually just over the hill and they are excited about the plans they have with their date and friends. The dresses, the restaurant, the after party. I get to hear all about the fun things!
Along with the fun events of their last year in high school come the serious ones. Leaving home is a big deal. Going to college is a huge. Getting your first serious job is an amazing opportunity. Grads face a lot of challenges, joys, and new experiences in the last part of this season. Their entire world changes in just a few months.
At such a wonderful and strange time in their lives, it feels fun just for a moment to take a break. To take a break and focus on them, to make them the absolute center of attention. To remind them how special they are as individuals. I think that’s one of the things I love most about senior portraits: they put a spotlight on all the best things about the grad. Because when your entire world feels like it’s changing, it’s nice to be reminded of who you are.
Getting to be a part of a grad’s last bit of their high school journey is awesome. I love showing the rest of the world how wonderful they are!
If you’re looking to have your senior’s portraits taken or if you will be graduating college soon, I’d love to be a part of this special time. If you’d like to check out some more of my senior photography, please take a look at my senior page.
